Chapter 3. Love Meets Again And Again: Gone In The Wind

Reeya

I was a student.

In my last year of college.

I studied MBA.

But I had already been hired.

Hired at my dream job.

Because I had perfect scores.

And I had quite a few internships

under my belt.

I was a hard worker at heart.

And my work has paid off.

But I wasn’t just a PA,

I also had a side hustle.

I have been organizing events

since high school.

We had rendezvous with Morgan.

At a restaurant in the heart of LA.

She was working on a project.

A project we didn’t see coming.

We sat.

Discussed the operations of the event.

I was with Sam and Sharli.

She brought her crew.

Pen and paper in hand.

We listened carefully.

It was important for us.

To please our clients.

To deliver with every detail.

And quality.

As they explained the project,

I was mind blown.

She wanted the event to be elegant,

But fun.

Big,

But small enough,

Small enough to not get carried away.

They wanted a fashion show.

The kind of event we dreamt of organizing.

But never got the opportunity.

The theme was discussed.

She had prepared detailed information.

It was a lot to work on.

But we were honored to be part of it.

She was reaching for the stars.

And we—

We wanted to take her there.

After congratulationing her,

On this new journey.

We moved across to a different table.

We had just gotten off work,

Before meeting Morgan.

We were exhausted and hungry.

So we ordered our drinks and food.

We enjoyed our dinner.

And once our belly was full of joy,

We decided that we’d go on a walk.

We were close by the lake.

It was spring.

It was nice out.

The trees were blooming.

And a little walk wouldn’t be a bad idea.

But I was also tired.

So I pondered the idea.

We could grab some ice cream.

And I honestly needed the dopamine.

So I agreed to go.

It was 7pm.

Still early for us to enjoy the evening.

As we walked

And discussed our recent rendezvous.

We came across a claw machine.

And I wanted to relive my childhood joy.

I was the first to put in coins.

I didn’t get anything the first tries.

I was disappointed.

I felt like these things were made

so we could never win.

Sharli played next.

She focused on the plushie she wanted.

She sent out the claw,

And it grabbed it.

Then it came down the hatch.

She retrieved her prize.

“You’re so good at this.

Please get me one.”

I asked my best friend with pleading eyes.

Sam was quietly pouting.

She definitely wanted a plushie too.

But didn’t want to ask.

Because they both had problems.

So at times they fought.

They could spend the whole day with me

And not say a word to each other.

It was something that happened in high school.

But they never wanted to share it with me.

Heart breaking.

Because I feel like I could help.

It’s been years now.

So I stopped trying to push it.

I showed Sharli the one I wanted.

She sent out the claw and dropped it.

It picked it up.

The joy I felt reached my heart.

My eyes lit up when the claw opened,

Then dropped the pink bunny plushie.

I picked it up,

And hugged Sharli out of excitement.

As I let go of Sharli,

I noticed Sam’s pout again.

Then I decided I’d try to help her.

“Sharli, can you get Sam one too?”

I asked like we were in kindergarten.

Sharli looked at her and didn’t fuss.

“Yeah, sure.”

She said.

Sam smiled.

“Which one do you want?”

Sharli asked her.

She showed her the one she wanted.

It was sitting a little weird.

I was scared she wouldn’t be able to get it.

She put her coins in the machine.

Sent out the claw.

It dropped but missed it,

And the plushie fell to the side.

Sam pouted.

“I’ll try again.”

Sharli reassured her.

I couldn’t believe what was happening

before my eyes.

They were actually getting along.

The plushie fell in a better spot,

So it wasn’t as hard to get.

She fed the machine coins

And sent out the claw again.

It dropped,

And picked up the plushie Sam wanted.

Sam jumped excitedly and hugged me.

She said a shy

“Thank you.” To Sharli.

She had saved the day and the walk.

We continued on our evening stroll.

As we walked,

We came across the ice cream truck.

I got strawberry and vanilla with caramel on top.

Sharli got mint cookie flavor

And Sam got Reese’s flavor.

As we ate our ice cream,

Right across the new hotel,

The one they’ve just finished building,

I saw someone get into a car.

He looked just like the man in the restaurant.

It happened so fast I wasn’t sure if it was him.

I shook my head.

I was not one to get carried away.

Carried away by a stranger.

But this man.

This man—

Seem to be everywhere.

Or maybe,

He is slowly taking over my mind.

To the point where I’m hallucinating.

I need to get it together.

Because a man was not my current priority.

Let alone one that I don’t know.

We finished our evening stroll.

Then we all went our separate ways.

To each one of our homes.

Sometimes all we need is an evening stroll.

And when you have friends like mine.

You can build up dopamine for a lifetime.
